#RARE17 - Booked up in Berlin: The authors "Jana Aston"

1. Can you tell us more about you and your books :)

I’m the author of Wrong and Right. I also have a novella and a new novel publishing this winter. Wrong and Right are both standalone books.

2. What can your German and American readers expect from you in the next months (any chance a german publisher publishs your books)? Is there anything in particular you are looking forward to?
Wrong was just published in German on September 15th. I’m hoping Right will be translated to German before the RARE signing in June. I’ve completed a novella and am working on a novel and planning to have both out this winter.

3. What do you do in your spare time when you are not working on a book? Do you have any other hobbies besides writing?

I do some quilting on and off. Sometimes I’m more into it than others, but I always love looking at fabric! I read a watch a ton of home improvement shows.

4. I read "Wrong" already, but my readers probably didn´t, so I´d like to know which book (to start with) you recommend for a new reader? I know, it´s like asking a mother to pick her favorite child …
I wrote both Wrong and Right as standalones, but Wrong does happen first so I’d start there. Right features the best friend from Wrong.

5. Are you a reader yourself or do you not read anything while writing a new book? Are there any books on your bed stand?

Yes! I read the kind of books I write for the most part. Dirty romances. :) I don’t read as much as I used to because most of my time is taken up with writing. I currently have an ARC of Emma Chase’s Royally Screwed on my kindle and I just want to put aside all my work today and get back to it!

6. When did you start writing? Have you already written some stories when you were a child? If so, can you remember your first story?
Wrong was the first thing I wrote. I did not write stories as a child. I was doing assistant work for my friend author JA Huss so I saw that it was possible to self publish books and reach readers. I had this story in my head about Sophie & Luke so I wrote it down. That was in late 2014 to early 2015. I first published in October 2015, so I just started writing in the last two years so it’s still very new to me. When I published Wrong I had almost no expectations for it and it ended up doing so well - which is still crazy to me.

7. Any advise for those who write in their spare time and want to get published?

Yes! Just do it. I wrote most of Wrong on a notepad! I would carry it everywhere and got down a few lines as I had time. I fit writing in around my life a few minutes here and there until I had a book. It took up all my spare time for months, but obviously I’m glad I did it. My best advice is not to think about it too much. Just write your story, don’t think about people reading it. Don’t second guess yourself, just keep writing.

8. Is there anything else you´d like to tell us?

I love Germany and I am so excited about this trip to Berlin for Rare 2017! I’ve been to Berlin once before, along with Frankfurt, Nuremberg and Dresden. I can’t get enough of old European cities and am looking forward to seeing Berlin again.

Mella
